“This is actually a very tiny drawing in the book it came out of,” Bill relates. “I sometimes do things like this in between more geometry-based srudys just to provide myself some relaxing mental space. Suzie and I weren’t sure it would enlarge all that well, but wow. It looks like it was actually drawn this size!” Turnbull notes that the image works without seeming artificially enlarged because of the super-fine lines Fleming uses in his originals. The initial lines are at least 3x finer that a typical pen or pencil weight and so can endure quite a bit of enlargement and still seem like a “normal” 100% scale rendering.
