There is an earthworks on the Nazca plain in Peru upon which this drawing is based. The theme of the figure, geometrically speaking, seems to be the diagonal of the half square (square root of 5) which has robust generative properties. It is also a precursor to the construction of the Golden Ratio, considered by many to be illustrative of perfect harmony and balance.
